Pohang City's "Character Promotion Booth" will be held for three days from May 31 to June 2 in front of the clock tower at Yeongildae Beach, under the theme "Yeonoseo Happiness Center."
The Yeonoseo Happiness Center is Pohang City's first "Character Promotion Booth," designed to familiarize visitors to the Pohang International Fireworks Festival with "Yeono (sun) and Seo (moon)," characters inspired by the Yeonorang Seonyeo legend, which embodies Pohang's identity.
In addition to promoting the characters, this event will also promote and encourage subscriptions to "Pocket Pohang," the city's official information service. "Pocket Pohang" conveniently delivers useful information such as city news, festivals, performances, cultural events, disaster alerts, and job postings to subscribers via KakaoTalk notification messages, providing weekly assistance to citizens.
Notably, this promotional booth reinterprets the traditionally rigid "Administrative Welfare Center" as a "Happiness Center" through the use of characters. It features programs where visitors can experience services typically offered at government offices, such as "customized certificate issuance" and "ID photo taking," attracting the attention of attendees.
Lee Sangyeop, spokesperson for Pohang City, said, "We hope that Pohang City's characters Yeono and Seo will become new icons for city promotion, utilized both online and offline in various ways, and play an important role in revitalizing the region."
Pohang City has been actively promoting its administration through various means, including the production of commemorative goods (such as dolls, keyrings, mirrors, stickers, fans, etc.) featuring Yeono and Seo for offline promotion, as well as operating an official Instagram account for the characters to enhance online outreach.
