Eunpyeong-gu Operates Intensive Reporting Period
Seoul Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced on the 29th that it will operate a focused reporting period for fraudulent claims of social security benefits in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
As the welfare budget continues to increase steadily, the importance of preventing financial leakage due to fraudulent claims is being further emphasized. Accordingly, fraudulent activities will be detected through the focused reporting period operation until July 12 of this year.
Eunpyeong-gu plans to investigate fraudulent claims among reports involving local welfare benefit recipients and take actions such as recovery decisions, suspension of benefits, and prosecution.
Major cases of fraudulent claims include ▲ failure to report income activities ▲ hiding common-law relationships to receive livelihood benefits ▲ intentionally failing to report the death of a beneficiary to continue receiving basic pension ▲ registering as disabled with false medical certificates to receive disability pensions and allowances, among others.
Anyone can report fraudulent claims of social security benefits through the ‘Bokjiro’ website, and it is also possible via mail or fax. Reports can be made anonymously or with real names, and whistleblowers who report with their real names may receive a reward of up to 30% of the recovered amount from fraudulent claims. Detailed consultations are also available through the fraud reporting hotline.
