Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that on June 8th, it will hold an experiential environmental culture festival titled “Practice Resource Circulation! Connecting Environment and People” at Yangcheon Park to commemorate the 29th Environment Day, reminding the importance of the environment and expanding public participation and consensus on environmental conservation.
Planned to encourage the practice of resource circulation in daily life, this festival breaks away from the traditional viewing format and consists of various participatory programs where visitors can feel the importance of environmental conservation, including unique experience booths themed on the environment, cultural and artistic corners such as book talks and photo exhibitions, and a resource circulation flea market.
First, the resource circulation experience events are mainly operated in three zones: Environmental Science Zone, Environmental Experience Zone, and Resource Circulation Zone. In the “Environmental Science Zone,” visitors can experience renewable energy through activities such as ▲making solar-powered car kits ▲solar-powered RC car games ▲energy generation experience and cotton candy making. In the “Environmental Experience Zone,” activities include ▲making eco-friendly scrubbers, solid toothpaste, and natural kitchen products ▲upcycling experiences using discarded banners and ocean treasures. In the “Resource Circulation Zone,” visitors can enjoy over 10 diverse environmental crafts and games such as ▲waste separation games ▲making coffee grounds natural soap and recycled bottle snow globes ▲making recycled animal piggy banks (fans) ▲making sock massage sticks and air fresheners ▲making recycled bottle flowerpots.
Especially this year, a special corner called “Environmental Empathy Book Talk” with Kim Hwang, a beloved ecological environment fairy tale author, has been prepared for children. During the book talk, the author will narrate her representative works “Ecological Passage” and “Nest Box,” discussing the preciousness of natural environment and animal ecological conservation.
Along with this, children can also enjoy environment reading programs tailored to their level, such as “Ask the Author” and “Book Signing” sessions that resolve their curiosities about the fairy tales.
Additionally, a newly introduced “Resource Circulation Flea Market” in collaboration with the local community will be held, along with various side events cooperating with local ESG management companies and eco-friendly businesses, including an exhibition of low-carbon eco-friendly products called “Green Product Exhibition,” a “Climate Environment Photo Exhibition” that intuitively captures the seriousness of weather phenomena and climate crisis, and a “Zero Cafe” without disposable cups.
Meanwhile, World Environment Day was established on June 5, 1972, at the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment to urge the international community’s joint efforts for global environmental conservation. South Korea also designated June 5 as “Environment Day” starting in 1996.
