Daegu Environmental Office Uncovers 18 Fugitive Dust Sites... Fines and Legal Actions Taken
The Daegu Regional Environmental Office inspected 25 fugitive dust-generating business sites in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions over a six-week period starting from the 15th of last month as part of its spring fine dust reduction measures, and found 27 violations at 18 of those businesses.
This special inspection focused on large-scale construction sites, construction waste processing companies, quarry development projects, and other businesses that generate significant fugitive dust and receive frequent complaints.
Violations included 15 cases of failure to take or insufficient measures to suppress fugitive dust, 3 cases of failure to obtain (or report) permits for air pollutant emission facilities, as well as inadequate management and operation of non-point pollution reduction facilities, and failure to complete environmental technician training.
Depending on the nature of the violations, the detected businesses were subjected to administrative dispositions and fines through their respective local governments, and cases requiring criminal prosecution will be strictly investigated by the Daegu Regional Environmental Office.
Suh Heungwon, head of the Daegu Regional Environmental Office, stated, "We will not stop at this special inspection, but will continue regular inspections of businesses that generate fugitive dust, ozone, and odors, doing our utmost to make residents' living environments more pleasant and healthy."
