Daejeon City Public Bicycle 'Tashu' Establishes Itself as a Short-Distance Transportation Option
After Season 2 Introduction, 260,000 Members Added... Weekday Commute Time Usage at 24%
Expanding to 7,500 Bikes and 1,500 Rental Stations by 2026
Daejeon City's public bicycle system, 'Tashu,' has established itself as a short-distance transportation option for Daejeon citizens.
According to the city on the 28th, since the introduction of Season 2 in July 2022, Tashu membership increased from 150,000 to 410,000, a rise of 260,000 members. Usage also surged significantly from an average of 1,432 users per day in 2021 to 13,725 users daily from January to April this year. The usage rate during weekday commuting hours was the highest at 24%, indicating that it is being used as a daily transportation means.
The city plans to further enhance public bicycle infrastructure and services. The current fleet of 4,900 bicycles will be expanded to 7,500 by 2026, and the number of rental stations will also increase to 1,500 by the same year.
To address citizen complaints related to returns and redistribution caused by the increase in Tashu usage, the city plans to annually increase the operational staff at the Tashu Center until 2027.
Additionally, to resolve issues such as indiscriminate use, privatization, and intentional damage observed during the operation of Tashu 2, the rental system will be significantly revamped in the second half of 2024 by introducing mobile phone identity verification procedures. Strong measures will also be taken against intentional damage.
