Gijang County to Launch Full-Scale Construction of Exclusive Access Road to Ilgwang Recreation Area, the Largest Sports Complex in Korea
Completion of Detailed Design for Access Road and Parking Lot Construction Project
Gijang-gun, Busan, has recently completed the detailed design service for the construction of a dedicated access road to Ilgwang Recreation Area and is accelerating the project implementation.
The "Ilgwang Recreation Area Access Road and Parking Lot Construction Project" is being promoted to ensure smooth traffic flow and improve parking convenience for visitors to Ilgwang Recreation Area, which is the largest sports complex in Korea.
The main components of the project include the construction of an access road connecting National Route 14, which runs adjacent to Ilgwang Recreation Area, to the recreation area itself (L=53m, B=18m), as well as the addition of 88 new parking spaces.
The county completed the detailed design service on the 16th and is currently carrying out preliminary compensation procedures for land acquisition, including negotiations for the free transfer of national and public land. The goal is to complete land compensation by the end of this year, commence full-scale construction next year, and finish the project by the end of 2025.
County Mayor Jeong Jongbok emphasized, "With the construction of the new access road and parking lot, accessibility for residents and visitors to Ilgwang Recreation Area will be greatly improved, and the efficiency of facility use will be maximized. Once Ilgwang Recreation Area is completed, it is expected not only to attract various competitions and visitors from across the country, thereby revitalizing the local economy, but also to establish itself as a new landmark and significantly enhance the county's brand image."
The "Ilgwang Recreation Area Development Project" aims to create a multi-purpose civic park on a site of 452,499 square meters, including a community sports park (National Sports Center, indoor gateball court), World Cup Village (main stadium, youth hostel, soccer park), and Baseball Theme Park (standard stadium, little league and softball fields, museum, experience center, and practice field).
Main cultural and sports facilities include the National Sports Center (swimming pool, gym, etc.), four soccer fields, six tennis courts, four baseball fields, and walking trails. In the future, an indoor gateball court and badminton court (June 2024), indoor baseball practice field and baseball experience center (May 2025), and the Korea Baseball Museum (second half of 2026) are scheduled for completion.
