Gurye-gun to Install Dalbitgyo Bridge over Seomjin River
Former Muncheokgyo Bridge Demolition Alternative: Installation of Bodo Bridge
Resident Opinions Collected, Design Name Decided
Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will place an order for the construction of a pedestrian bridge, proposed as an alternative after the demolition of the old Muncheokgyo Bridge, in June.
The county has currently completed public design and landscape reviews and has applied for a river occupation permit from the Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office. Construction will be ordered as soon as the permit is granted.
Following the demolition of the old Muncheokgyo Bridge by the Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office, which had caused some issues during the heavy rains in 2020, the county decided to install a new pedestrian bridge at the site to alleviate residents' inconvenience in crossing.
Over the past two years, the county, a residents' representative group (the Pan-Citizen Countermeasure Committee for the Preservation of Muncheokgyo Bridge), and the Yeongsangang Office formed a public-private consultative body to jointly participate in the pedestrian bridge design.
The county plans to install subtle nighttime lighting that harmonizes with the natural scenery so that users can conveniently use the bridge not only during the day but also at night, reflecting residents' opinions extensively.
The bridge was also named "Seomjingang Dalbitgyo" (Seomjin River Moonlight Bridge) in consultation with the residents.
Seomjingang Dalbitgyo is a pedestrian-only bridge with a length of 460 meters and a width of 4.5 meters, designed for pedestrians, bicycles, and electric vehicles.
The total project cost is 17 billion KRW, and the construction period is two years.
County Governor Kim Soon-ho said, "Based on trust with the residents, we are continuously communicating and promoting the installation of the pedestrian bridge," adding, "We will do our best until a safe and beautiful bridge is completed."
