Boseong-gun Successfully Hosts Tea Beverage Contest 'Boseong Tea Master Cup'

Lee Ah-young Receives Award for Developing 'Green Tea Cluster in the Vineyard'
Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 4th that it successfully concluded the ‘2nd Boseong Tea Master Cup’ held as a linked event to celebrate the ‘47th Boseong Dahyang Festival.’
As part of the Boseong Dahyang Festival, the Boseong Tea Master Cup, held in Seoul, Gwangju, Wonju, and Daegu, is a competition that evaluates the visual appeal, taste and aroma, creativity, marketability, and usability of Boseong tea beverages, targeting food and beverage service operators and related major students nationwide.
On the day of the competition, 1,200 cups of tea beverage works by six finalists were offered free of charge to tourists, providing an opportunity to directly experience the taste of various beverages made using tea, which received great responses from participants.
The prestigious grand prize was awarded to Ms. Lee Ah-young for developing ‘Green Tea Song-i in the Vineyard,’ who received a prize of 2 million KRW, a certificate from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and a trophy. The excellence award went to Mr. Kim Seung-soo for presenting ‘Traffic Light,’ who received the Jeollanam-do Governor’s Award, and the gold prize was awarded to Mr. Lee Byung-yeon for presenting ‘Hoji, Pine, Thank You,’ who received the Boseong County Governor’s Award.
The grand prize-winning work, ‘Green Tea Song-i in the Vineyard,’ is a variation tea using Boseong matcha, Shine Muscat grapes, and other grapes, which scored highly in judging criteria such as easily obtainable ingredients, simple manufacturing methods, and beverage appearance.
Boseong-gun plans to provide the award-winning recipe book to cafes and food and beverage establishments in the region to promote menu development using Boseong tea, thereby further strengthening the function of the regional linked festival. The differentiated tea content created through this competition will continue to be presented to tourists and local residents in various forms.
Kim Cheol-woo, the governor of Boseong-gun, said, “This tea beverage competition played a significant role in widely promoting the excellence of Boseong tea nationwide and fostering the sustainable development of the tea industry.” He added, “We will continue to do our best to promote the charm and taste of our tea domestically and internationally through the Boseong Dahyang Festival.”
Meanwhile, based on the successful hosting of this competition, Boseong-gun plans to further accelerate the popularization of tea culture and the revitalization of the tourism industry.
