For vessels with over 200 people... 105 hazard factors found last year, preventive measures taken
The West Sea Regional Coast Guard Agency (Chief Kim Inchang) is conducting intensive safety inspections on passenger and vehicle ferries operating on the sea surface, amid a steady increase in maritime activity population since the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the West Sea Coast Guard on the 17th, safety inspections are being carried out on vessels and marine facilities where safety accidents are a concern, to eliminate risk factors in advance and to raise public safety awareness. These inspections have been ongoing since the 22nd of last month, scheduled for 61 days.

The key inspection targets are passenger ferries with a capacity of 200 or more, vehicle-carrying ferries, and the piers where these ferries are moored or docked. Within the jurisdiction of the West Sea Coast Guard, the inspection targets include 27 passenger and vehicle ferries and 31 piers.
The West Sea Coast Guard is diagnosing improvements not only in the safety of facilities and equipment according to a safety management checklist but also in laws, systems, and actual conditions. After the inspections, the results will be disclosed, and a database of inspected facilities will be created to establish a continuous and systematic safety management system.
