Geumcheon-gu Thoroughly Cleans Up Abandoned Wires on Utility Poles... Implements Maintenance of Defective Overhead Cables
Public Cable Maintenance Project in Doksan 1-dong Area to be Implemented by December
12 Billion Won Invested, Expected Improvement in Pedestrian Environment and Urban Aesthetics
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will maintain defective aerial cables such as electric wires and communication lines that damage the urban landscape and threaten pedestrian safety in the Doksan 1-dong area until December.
The aerial cable maintenance project is a project that organizes electric wires or broadcasting and communication cables tangled like cobwebs on roads or buildings by bundling them together or removing abandoned wires. It is promoted under the Ministry of Science and ICT and selects different neighborhoods as project areas sequentially every year for maintenance.
This year, with a budget of 1.2 billion KRW (fully borne by telecommunication companies), it plans to maintain 887 utility poles, 446 communication poles, and 24,091 meters of aerial cables around Doksan 1-dong Seil Middle School, Malmi Village, and Siheung-daero 123-gil.
Seven companies, including Korea Electric Power Corporation and broadcasting and communication operators, will jointly carry out the removal of abandoned and defective wires, organize tangled and proliferated incoming lines, and maintain broadcasting and communication facilities excessively installed on utility poles and communication poles.
In January this year, the district held a residents' briefing session at the Doksan 1-dong Community Service Center to introduce the aerial cable maintenance project and guide cooperation matters to residents.
In March, public and private sectors cooperated to enact the "Ordinance on Supporting Aerial Cable Maintenance in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul" to promote smooth and systematic project implementation. According to the ordinance, a maintenance promotion team including local residents and experts is formed and operated.
The district was selected again this year for the "Pilot Project to Improve Aerial Cable Maintenance Procedures," following last year. This project aims to strengthen management of maintenance results by having local governments evaluate the completed maintenance areas.
Also, this year, it was selected for the "Pilot Project for Shared Incoming Lines." In the pilot project area around Doksan Police Substation, communication lines (incoming lines) connecting utility poles to buildings will be integrated into a single line to create a pleasant street environment.
Over the past three years, the district has maintained 1,513 utility poles, 602 communication poles, and 74,326 meters of aerial cables.
