Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it is recruiting a total of 8 people, including principal members (soloists) and new members, for the “Yangcheon-gu Choir,” the district’s representative cultural delegation contributing to the artistic emotional cultivation of residents and the development of local culture, until the 23rd of this month.
Founded in 1988 as the Yangcheon Mothers’ Choir, the “Yangcheon-gu Choir” was reestablished as the Yangcheon-gu Choir in November 2001 and has contributed to enhancing the prestige of Yangcheon-gu by presenting beautiful harmonies at various cultural events for 36 years. The total capacity is 60 members, and it currently consists of 31 members including the conductor, accompanist, and general members.
General new members can apply if they are women aged 19 to 55 residing in Yangcheon-gu who have an interest in choir and love music. For principal members, there is no residency restriction, and women under 55 who have graduated from a four-year university with a major in vocal music are eligible to apply. In particular, those selected as principal members will be responsible for guiding vocal exercises for members and performing solo parts during concerts.
If you wish to apply, you can visit the Culture and Sports Division of the district office with ▲application form ▲resume ▲sheet music for the practical test ▲certificate of career, or submit them via email to the person in charge. The application form can be downloaded from the notice board on the district office website.
The district plans to notify the final selection results individually in June after the first document screening and the second practical test and interview. During the second test, general members will perform one free choice song from art songs or arias, and principal members will sight-sing two songs, one free choice and one designated, followed by an interview.
Once appointed as choir members, regular rehearsals will be held every Monday and Wednesday at the Sunflower Hall of Yangcheon Culture Center, and members will participate in regular concerts, national choir competitions, and various cultural events hosted by the district office and other organizations.
Meanwhile, the Yangcheon-gu Choir has been engaged in talent donation activities such as invited performances at regular concerts, welfare center programs within the district, and local events. In 2014, it won the Integrated Grand Prize at the National Choir Competition awarded by the President, and in 2015, it received the Grand Prize at the National Environmental Song Choir Competition.
