‘Vietnam Taekwondo Craze’... Taekwondowon Actively Attracts Tourists
Taekwondo Tourism Delegation from Vietnam Visiting Korea on 18-19
Operating Approximately 1,100 Dojangs Across Vietnam
The Taekwondo Promotion Foundation announced on the 16th that it is actively attracting Vietnamese tourists by developing Taekwondo tourism products, a representative content of the Korean Wave, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization.
According to the Korean Cultural Center in Vietnam and the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation (VTF), about 1,100 dojangs are currently operating throughout Vietnam, with an estimated 100,000 practitioners.
The foundation stated that from the 18th to 19th, more than 30 Vietnamese tourists will visit Taekwondowon for a 1-night, 2-day schedule to experience Taekwondo, watch the regular performances at Taekwondowon, and tour the 700,000-pyeong (approximately 2.31 million square meters) Taekwondowon grounds.
Earlier, the foundation operated Taekwondo tourism products for about 30 Vietnamese participants on April 4-5 and 14-15, including a familiarization tour for local travel agency representatives in Vietnam.
Participants in the Taekwondo tourism products wore doboks and freely enjoyed taking photos while touring Taekwondowon.
They also expressed high satisfaction with the Taekwondo experience program and the regular performances at Taekwondowon, which showcased breaking techniques and poomsae.
The foundation explained that local residents who saw SNS posts by sports tourism groups flocked to apply for the Taekwondo tourism products, and the tours on the 14th-15th and 18th-19th were fully booked within two days.
Lee Jong-gap, Acting Chairman of the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation, said, "We are working together with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization to attract foreign sports tourists. We will do our best to develop programs and ensure stable operation so that more foreigners visit Taekwondowon by utilizing Taekwondo, the original source of the Korean Wave."
