Fishing Farm Management Boat Falls Near Geumil-eup, Wando-gun... 2 Dead, 1 Rescued
The Wando Maritime Police Station in Jeonnam (Chief Lee Young-ho) announced that on the 11th at around 1:17 PM, three people aboard the aquaculture management vessel A (1-ton class, 7 passengers) fell into the sea about 500 meters off Dongbaek-ri, Geumil-eup, Wando-gun. One person was rescued, and two died.
They had visited Pyeongildo, located in Geumil-eup, Wando-gun, on the 10th to dry kelp on land, and at around 1:10 PM on the 11th, they set sail with village officials to enjoy the sea breeze. During the vessel’s turning maneuver, three people (a man in his 50s, a woman in her 70s, and a teenage girl) fell into the sea.
A nearby fishing boat rescued one passenger (the teenage girl), who was confirmed to be in good health. The other two (the man in his 50s and the woman in her 70s) were found in cardiac arrest and were transported but died.
The maritime police are investigating the circumstances of the accident by interviewing witnesses and passengers who were on board at the time.
