Chungnam Teachers' Union Announces Results of Teacher Perception Survey
The majority of teachers in the Chungnam region perceive that they are not respected in society.
The Chungnam Teachers' Labor Union announced the results of a survey on teachers' perceptions in the Chungnam region on the 10th, conducted ahead of the 43rd Teachers' Day. A total of 321 teachers from the Chungnam region participated in this survey.
According to the survey results, only 3.7% (12 teachers) responded that "teachers are respected in our society."
Regarding job satisfaction, 20.8% (67 teachers) said they are satisfied with their teaching career. Meanwhile, 65.4% (210 teachers) reported having considered changing jobs or resigning.
Teachers who reported experiencing infringement of their teaching rights by students or students' guardians were 60.7% and 54.5%, respectively. Notably, 85.4% said they have worried about being accused of emotional child abuse.
Although the four laws for restoring teachers' rights were amended last year, only 3.1% (10 teachers) responded that working conditions at schools have improved. Positive responses regarding the system for separating disruptive students and the operation of complaint response systems were only 12.5% (40 teachers) and 20.3% (65 teachers), respectively.
Satisfaction with the current government's education policies was found to be very low. In particular, 89.1% (286 teachers) and 90% (289 teachers) gave failing grades (F) to the Neulbom School and the Yubotonghap policy, respectively.

Choi Jaeyoung, chairman of the Teachers' Union, stated, "The dissatisfaction revealed through this survey is not merely an individual teacher's issue but stems from a lack of systematic support and deficiencies in education policies," and demanded, "The Ministry of Education and the National Assembly should listen to the voices of teachers in the field and promote practical policies and legislation to restore public education."
