Mokpo Mayor Park Hong-ryul Calls for Five-Party Meeting to Attract Medical School to Jeonnam Region
"Let's Discuss Reasonable Plans for Attracting Medical School and Hospital, Jeonnam's Biggest Long-cherished Project"
Park Hong-ryul, Mayor of Mokpo City, expressed the view that it is desirable to hold a five-party meeting involving Jeollanam-do, Mokpo City, Suncheon City, Mokpo National University, and Suncheon National University.
Jeollanam-do had proposed a five-party joint meeting to discuss reasonable measures related to the public contest for recommending a university to establish a national medical school.
Mayor Park said, "I expect that constructive measures regarding the establishment of a national medical school and hospital in the Jeonnam region, which is being carried out according to the president and government guidelines as the head of administration, will be discussed at the meeting," adding, "It should be held as soon as possible."
He also stated, "I respect the position of Jeollanam-do, which is implementing policies to recommend a university for the establishment of a national medical school and hospital, verbally delegated by President Yoon Seok-yeol," and proposed, "Let us directly hear the progress from Jeollanam-do and have an open and sincere discussion among the five parties: Song Ha-cheol, President of Mokpo National University; Park Hong-ryul, Mayor of Mokpo; Lee Byung-woon, President of Suncheon National University; and Noh Kwan-gyu, Mayor of Suncheon."
In particular, he said, "The issue of establishing a national medical school and hospital is a matter that President Yoon has personally shown interest in and mentioned. Since it must be resolved quickly without missing the golden time, let us firmly establish momentum through the five-party meeting."
Mayor Park emphasized, "Jeollanam-do, Mokpo, and Suncheon must unite on a grand scale to successfully attract the national medical school and hospital this time, which no administration has been able to resolve so far."
