Kumho Tire, 'Kumho SL Motorsports' Ready to Compete in eN1 Class
Kumho Tire sponsors and the Kumho SL Motorsports team, led by director Shin Young-hak, will participate in the eN1 class, Korea's first electric vehicle race, held on the 11th at Yongin Everland Speedway.
The eN1 class is an electric vehicle race within the 'Hyundai N Festival,' the largest one-make (single model) race in Korea. It is recognized as the country's first electric vehicle race and the world's first electric vehicle race to apply racing-specific slick tires. This class uses Hyundai's Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup Car. The Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup Car is a race car that maximizes driving performance by integrating advanced electrification technologies such as front and rear motors with a maximum output of 478 kW (650 horsepower) and a high-output 84.0 kWh battery, along with various elements for circuit driving.
SL Motorsports is a racing team founded by Kumho Tire in 2014 and competed in the CJ Super Race Super 6000 class as the EXRTA Racing Team until last year. Since its establishment, it has led Korean motorsports as a long-term partner in racing competitions and has established itself as a representative racing team of Korea. Additionally, on the 7th, Kumho Tire signed a team title sponsorship contract, and from this season, the official team name will be ‘Kumho SL Motorsports.’
Kumho SL Motorsports has prepared for the 2024 season by recruiting skilled drivers Lee Chang-wook and Noh Dong-gi. Driver Noh Dong-gi performed with the EXRTA Racing Team for two seasons in 2020 and 2021, achieving 3rd place overall in the ‘2021 CJ Logistics Super Race Championship Super 6000.’ In particular, driver Lee Chang-wook demonstrated his innate talent and extensive competition experience by finishing 2nd overall in the ‘2023 Super 6000,’ signaling a successful generational change in motorsports.
Moreover, Kumho SL Motorsports will equip the Ioniq 5 N eN1 Cup Car in the eN1 class with Kumho Tire’s electric vehicle-specific tire, EnnoV. EnnoV is Kumho Tire’s cutting-edge electric vehicle-exclusive brand that uses an EV-specific compound to provide excellent grip and stable handling performance even at high speeds, perfectly realizing the driving performance of electric vehicles.
