Jungnang-gu Takes Responsibility for Career Exploration and Learning Motivation
University Exploration Program with College Student Mentors for Middle and High School Students
Helps Collect Department Information and Enhances Learning Motivation
2023 Program Satisfaction Survey Shows 98% 'Satisfied'... Receives Great Response
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) is operating a university exploration program with college student mentors for middle and high school students until the end of this year.
The university exploration program is part of a career experience program organized by the Jungnang-gu Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center. It helps students gather information about academic departments necessary for their career paths and increases motivation for learning by exploring universities directly with college student mentors.
Last year, the program was conducted for 4,300 students from 18 middle and high schools in the region, receiving great responses with 98% of participants expressing satisfaction in the program satisfaction survey.
This year, with enthusiastic responses from many schools and students, 5,700 students from 20 middle and high schools in the region have completed their applications. The program plans to explore four universities preferred by students: Seoul National University, Korea University, Kyung Hee University, and Hanyang University.
The first program of this year started on May 2nd, when 61 students from Songgok Girls' Middle School visited Kyung Hee University.
On that day, the program consisted of a campus tour visiting Cheongun Hall, the Central Museum, the College of Humanities, and the College of Human Ecology with college student mentors in groups, mentoring sessions using specialized textbooks where current students shared study methods by subject, and motivational learning sessions on how to prepare efficiently for exams through mentoring.
One student shared, "It was good to get more practical information by talking a lot with college student mentors rather than just walking around and looking at buildings," and "Visiting the university in person made me think more deeply about my career and future."
