US Cellular in the US Discusses Split Sale to Verizon and T-Mobile
US Cellular Stock Soars 29.7%
US Cellular, a regional mobile carrier in the United States, is reportedly in talks to be split and sold to Verizon and T-Mobile, the top two players in the U.S. mobile industry.
On the 9th (local time), the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources, reported that T-Mobile is negotiating to acquire part of US Cellular's business rights and spectrum licenses for $2 billion.
Verizon is also said to be conducting separate negotiations to acquire the remaining business segments of US Cellular.
US Cellular has chosen to split and sell to T-Mobile and Verizon, considering antitrust reviews by regulatory authorities.
US Cellular is a mobile carrier providing services in 21 states across the U.S., with approximately 4 million subscribers.
Verizon is the largest mobile carrier in the U.S. by subscriber count, while T-Mobile rose to the second position in the industry after acquiring Sprint in 2020. Recently, it also acquired the emerging carrier Mint Mobile.
