Kim Jaewon Inaugurated as the First Director of Gimhae Research Institute: "We Will Foster Differentiated Urban Competitiveness"
Kim Jaewon, Dean of the College of Aviation at Silla University, received his appointment letter on the 8th and was inaugurated as the first director of the Gimhae Research Institute in Gimhae, Gyeongnam.
According to Gimhae City, Director Kim earned a master's degree in Tourism Management and a doctorate in Tourism Industry from Dong-A University. He has worked for over 17 years in management, culture tourism, and aviation fields, including positions as the Busan branch manager of British Airways and Air France, and as a professor at Silla University.
He has also served as a member of the Gimhae City Urban Planning Committee, a member of the Northeast Asia Logistics Platform Attraction Committee of Gimhae City, an advisor to the Gimhae City Investment Attraction Advisory Group, vice president of the Korea MICE Tourism Association, vice president of the Korea Tourism and Leisure Association, advisory member of the Korea Asset Management Corporation, and chairman of the transition committee for the 8th elected mayor of Gimhae.

Mayor Hong Taeyong said, “We have established a founding director who possesses both management ability and expertise,” and added, “We expect that he will play a significant role in carrying out Gimhae City's comprehensive policy think tank and laying the foundation for the Gimhae Research Institute, which will draw the blueprint for Gimhae.”
Director Kim stated, “In modern industrial society, urban competitiveness is more important than ever,” and said, “To strengthen Gimhae's urban competitiveness, it is urgent to reinforce the economic (job) base, improve transportation infrastructure, foster distinctive cultural tourism industries, and enhance differentiated educational environments.”
He continued, “In the short term, the Gimhae Research Institute will propose policy measures reflecting local issues and characteristics, and in the mid- to long-term, it will do its best to develop comprehensive policies for the future development of Gimhae City.”
The Gimhae Research Institute is set to play a central role in policy development for Gimhae City. After recruiting researchers and staff in May and June, it plans to open on July 1.
Its responsibilities will include ▲ preparing a sustainable future development policy roadmap for Gimhae in response to internal and external environmental changes ▲ establishing mid- to long-term plans for Gimhae City's development and conducting research on major policies ▲ investigating key issues and institutional improvements in Gimhae City ▲ researching urban identity establishment and enhancing local branding value.

It will operate on the 2nd floor of the Gimhae Small and Medium Business Business Center with a structure consisting of one management support office, three departments: Economic and Industrial Research, Culture, Tourism and Welfare Research, and Urban, Transportation and Environment Research.
