Meanwhile, Pilam Seowon in Jangseong, registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019, is a representative private educational institution of the Joseon Dynasty.
It also enshrines the Neo-Confucian scholar Ha Seo Kim In-hu (河西 金麟厚, 1510?1560) and is a very important national heritage for studying the lifestyle, social, and economic conditions of scholars at that time.
Ha Seo, the teacher of King Injong, is said to have had a special bond of friendship between teacher and student despite the lord-retainer relationship. The "Mokjukdo" (Ink Bamboo Painting), personally painted and bestowed by King Injong when he was crown prince, is well known.
