This is the story of Jeon Yesung, who competes on the Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour. On the 28th, at the Lakewood Country Club in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province (par 72, 6,554 yards), during the final round of this year’s first major tournament, the Chris F&C 46th KLPGA Championship (total prize money 1.3 billion KRW), she played the round of her life. She recorded 12 birdies without a single bogey, shooting 12-under-par 60. She set a new KLPGA Tour record for the lowest score over 18 holes.
Lee Jeong-eun 6 also shot a 60 in the second round of the OK Savings Bank Park Seri Invitational in September 2017. At that time, she made one eagle and ten birdies for a 12-under-par 60. Before Lee Jeong-eun 6, Jeon Mi-jeong shot 61 in the second round of the Paradise Invitational in 2003.
Jeon Yesung set the record for the most birdies in 18 holes that day. The 12-under-par 60 is a new record for the lowest score over 18 holes not only in this tournament but also across all major tournaments. The previous record was 10-under-par 62, set by Choi Hye-jung in the fourth round of this tournament in 2011 and by Lee Jeong-min in the third round of this tournament just the day before. Jeon Yesung achieved her best result of the year with a runner-up finish. "My youngest sibling said, ‘Sister, you’re crazy today,’ which made me laugh. Everything I hit today went in. I practiced putting a lot yesterday because it wasn’t going well, and it paid off with good results."
