Police to Conduct Special Crackdown on 'Illegal Activities at Construction Sites' Until October
The National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters announced on the 28th that it will conduct a special crackdown on illegal activities at construction sites from the 29th until October 31.
The focus of this intensive crackdown includes extortion and violence at construction sites, illegal assemblies and protests, bribery, rebates, and construction corruption such as substandard construction.
The National Investigation Headquarters stated, "From December 2022, we conducted a special crackdown on violent acts at construction sites for eight months, arresting 4,829 people (148 detained). Recently, violent acts at construction sites have shown signs of becoming more covert and underhanded, and cases of construction corruption such as substandard construction and illegal subcontracting continue to occur, so we have decided to crack down on both violent acts and illegal activities simultaneously."
During the crackdown period, the National Investigation Headquarters will form a "Construction Site Illegal Activity Eradication Task Force" led by the Director of the Investigation Bureau. The city and provincial police agencies will organize a "Comprehensive Response Team" led by the head of the investigation department, and 259 police stations nationwide will form "Rapid Response Teams" to fully mobilize investigative capabilities.
Woo Jong-su, head of the National Investigation Headquarters, said, "We will push for a strong crackdown until illegal activities at construction sites are eradicated to protect the housing stability of many law-abiding construction workers and the public," adding, "If you witness illegal activities, please actively report or provide information to 112 or the nearest police station."
Meanwhile, according to the National Investigation Headquarters, from December 2022 when the special crackdown began until the 12th of this month, a total of 5,175 people (153 detained) have been arrested for illegal activities at construction sites.
