"Spreading Korean Charm Worldwide..." Ministry of Culture Invites Southeast Asian and African Media
"A Clue to Promoting Mutual Human and Material Exchange"
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 28th that it will invite foreign journalists to support coverage of Korea's economy, culture, diplomacy, and more. Starting with the Southeast Asia and Africa regions, foreign journalists will be invited through the end of the year.
On the 2nd, foreign tourists visiting Myeongdong, Jung-gu, Seoul, are enjoying sightseeing. According to the Korea Tourism Organization, the number of foreign tourists visiting South Korea in February reached 1,030,244. This is 86% of the level compared to February 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. During the same period, tourists from China and Japan also recovered to 76% and 86% levels, respectively. On this day, eight journalists from Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Hong Kong, visited Korea for the first time. Under the theme of 'K-Culture and Sustainable Regional Growth,' they will experience Korea's traditional culture and Korean cuisine and explore local cultural resources until the 4th of next month. Chu Lingquan, a reporter from Hong Kong Ming Pao, said, "I hope this will be an opportunity to explore Korean society and culture more deeply."
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also invited African journalists to commemorate the 'Korea-Africa Summit' to be held in Korea in early June. Ten journalists from Ghana, Gabon, Nigeria, South Africa, Angola, Egypt, Seychelles, and Kenya will visit Korea on the 5th of next month. They will visit various cultural and artistic sites under the theme of 'Sustainable Prosperity,' which the Korea-Africa Summit pursues.
A Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism official explained, "They will cover the 'Africa Film Festival' and 'Africa Cultural Festival' held in conjunction with the summit and meet summit officials to hear about sustainable coexistence as partners." Nesma Youssef, a reporter from Egypt's Al-Shorouk, said, "I plan to closely observe Korean culture and its beautiful civilization and learn how Korea protects its heritage."
