National Namdo Gugak Center to Host Tiger's Birthday Party on Children's Day

Children's Day Special Performance: Yeoumhoe Invites to Present Traditional Yeonhiguk

The National Namdo Gugak Center announced on the 26th that it will hold the '2024 Children's Day Special Performance' at 3 p.m. on the 4th and 5th of next month, in celebration of Family Month in May and Children's Day.

The performance on these days is Yeumhoe's traditional play "Sanjoonghogul Horangnim's Birthday Party," which tells the story of the forest king, Horangnim the tiger, who invites animal performers to hold a grand birthday party and sets out to find these animal performers. The work is designed to engage the audience by using the characters of the animals to highlight key points of the story and to help them understand the characteristics and concepts of traditional musical instruments.

Additionally, before the performance, LED candles will be distributed to the audience upon entry, and they will sing a birthday song for the tiger. Through participatory experiences such as playing with the beorna (a traditional Korean spinning top), and wearing tiger masks, the audience will also interact with the performers.

Besides the performance, various side events and activities are prepared for the audience. Side events include making carnations, face painting, bubble experiences, and magic shows, offering a variety of hands-on activities and entertainment. As an event, 20 people who post reviews of the performance on the National Namdo Gugak Center's website or SNS will be selected by lottery to receive a mobile coupon worth 10,000 won.

The performance is free of charge, and a free shuttle bus will be provided before and after the performance, running between Jindo-eup Office, the Gugak Center, Osan Elementary School (Gogun-myeon), and Hoedong (the Mysterious Sea Road).
