Gyeonggi-do Accepts Applications for 'Fisheries Public Interest Direct Payment System' Until the End of June
Gyeonggi Province will accept applications for the 'Fisheries Public Interest Direct Payment System' from May 1 to June 30 for two months through the eup, myeon, and dong offices of the respective cities and counties for fishermen in the province.
The Fisheries Public Interest Direct Payment System is a program that provides direct payments to promote income stability for fishermen and strengthen the public interest functions in the fisheries and fishing village sectors. The application categories include ▲Disadvantaged Area Direct Payment ▲Small-scale Fishing Households ▲Crew Members.
The Disadvantaged Area Direct Payment supports islands and border areas with low fishery productivity and unfavorable living conditions by providing 800,000 KRW annually per fishing household. This applies to 20 locations in three cities and counties: Hwaseong, Ansan, and Gimpo.
The Small-scale Fishing Household Direct Payment supports small-scale fishing households to reduce income disparities among fishermen. Eligible applicants must have maintained the relevant fishery for more than three years and have an annual seafood sales amount of at least 1.2 million KRW, or have engaged in fishing for more than 60 days in a year with annual sales under 100 million KRW.
The Crew Member Direct Payment applies to crew members with South Korean nationality who are employed by owners of fishing vessels licensed for fishing, maintaining an employment relationship for more than six months in a year or having worked on a fishing vessel for more than six months (180 days) in a year.
Gyeonggi Province has adjusted the support amount for the Small-scale Fishing Household and Crew Member Direct Payment to 1.3 million KRW, an increase of 100,000 KRW from last year's 1.2 million KRW.
Kim Bong-hyun, Director of the Marine Fisheries Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Since direct payments cannot be received simultaneously and the application period is the same, care must be taken to ensure that no one is excluded from payment due to unmet conditions," adding, "We hope the direct payments will provide some help to fishermen and crew members who are struggling due to high inflation."
