Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will operate an educational program titled “Ieojumi: Support and Understanding for Isolated and Reclusive Youth” aimed at youth themselves and their parents (families) to encourage the swift recovery of daily life and healthy social integration of isolated and reclusive youth in the area.
‘Ieojumi’ is a combination of ‘ieojuda’ (to connect) and ‘mirae’ (future), meaning that the people around the youth come together to connect the youth with the future.
The significance lies in expanding the education target from the youth themselves to their parents and families, supporting the formation of relationships with those around them and changes in the social environment together.
This program is divided into the first and second halves of the year. The first half consists of four sessions designed to learn about and understand isolated and reclusive youth.
The educational topics include ▲ sharing cases of overcoming isolation and reclusion ▲ strengthening communication and interpersonal skills ▲ finding each person’s role for self-understanding and growth ▲ career planning and exploration, with lectures provided for both parents and youth participants.
Additionally, in the first half program, instructors such as Lee Dong-joo (actor), Lee Joo-hoon (musical actor), and Park Sung-eun (Dandelion Career) will participate. Notably, a youth who has experienced isolation and reclusion will serve as an instructor to candidly share their own experiences and overcoming process.
The number of participants for each session in the first half is limited to 20 on a first-come, first-served basis. The application deadline is until 6 p.m. on May 20, and applications can be submitted online via a QR code. Any resident or person living in the district is eligible to participate. The education will be held every Tuesday for four weeks starting May 21 at the ‘Yeongdeungpo-gu Women’s Communication and Culture Space HEY YDP.’
For more details, inquiries can be made to the Ieojumi program coordinator or the Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Job Policy Division.
The second half of the year will consist of six sessions focused on accurately confronting the situation of children’s isolation and reclusion and programs to overcome it. In particular, an acting-based ‘art healing workshop’ will provide time to honestly express each person’s situation and understand one another. Detailed information on the composition, content, recruitment numbers, and period of the second half program will be announced later.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “For youth to return to society healthily and safely, understanding from those around them and changes in the environment are also important,” adding, “We will continue to pay attention to the various problems youth face and do our best to create a better future.”
