View original imageThe "Play English with Deullaknallak" program is part of the "Busan-style Children's English Education" initiative aimed at children aged 4 to 7 and lower grades of elementary school. It seeks to reduce resistance to English and increase familiarity by exposing children to English through play with native speakers, thereby creating an environment where English can be easily used in daily life.
As a result of the pilot operation at 11 locations last year, high satisfaction and willingness to participate again were reported by parents. The city is actively reflecting these opinions to expand the program citywide this year.
Deullaknallak, a complex cultural space enjoyed by families together, is being expanded to all 16 districts and counties of Busan. In the first half of this year, applications were accepted from 33 Deullaknallak locations capable of operating the "Play English with Deullaknallak" program, and the program will be gradually implemented starting mid-April.
This year, the "Play English with Deullaknallak" program will address shortcomings from last year’s pilot by conducting classes in four-month terms (two terms per year).
The program will enhance learning continuity and separate classes for preschool and elementary students to provide more tailored lessons suited to the children’s levels.
Storytelling, maker classes, and phonics lessons will be conducted to help children learn more proactively through communication and play.
Classes for the first term will begin on April 24 at "Mangmi Small Library Deullaknallak" and "Millak Small Library Deullaknallak" in Suyeong-gu.
Details about program start dates by facility and how to apply can be found by visiting the Deullaknallak website and accessing the site of the Deullaknallak location where participation is desired.
Participation in the classes is completely free of charge.
The city plans to accept additional applications for the second term (September to December) from Deullaknallak locations that could not apply for the first half program due to completion schedules after April. Furthermore, group class applications for daycare centers and kindergartens to participate in the "Play English with Deullaknallak" program will also be accepted.
