Gyeonggi-do Provides Free 'Pet Insurance' to Adopters of Abandoned Animals
Gyeonggi Province supports adopters of abandoned animals in subscribing to ‘pet insurance’.
On the 23rd, Gyeonggi Province announced that starting from the 22nd, it has launched the ‘Adopted Animal Safety Insurance Support Project’ to reduce the burden of raising animals by supporting animal insurance premiums for adopters of abandoned animals and to promote the adoption culture.
To this end, Gyeonggi Province signed an agreement with DB Insurance and provides free safety insurance subscription worth approximately 200,000 KRW per animal. The total number of supported animals this year is about 1,000.

View original imageThe Adopted Animal Safety Insurance covers injury and illness treatment costs and liability expenses for one year from the subscription date. The support details are as follows: ▲ hospitalization and outpatient fees up to 200,000 KRW per day ▲ surgical treatment fees up to 2,000,000 KRW per case ▲ liability expenses up to 10,000,000 KRW per accident.
The support targets dogs and cats adopted from animal protection centers directly managed or commissioned by the province or city/county from January 1 this year, and applications for subscription can be made at the animal protection centers that adopted the abandoned animals.

Kim Jong-hoon, Director of the Livestock Animal Welfare Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, said, "We expect that supporting animal insurance subscription fees will alleviate residents’ concerns about diseases and accidents of adopted abandoned animals," and added, "We hope this project will encourage residents to take more interest in adopting abandoned animals and increase the adoption rate."
