산림청, Intensive Inspection of Disaster-Prone Areas and Facilities Such as Landslides
The Korea Forest Service announced on the 19th that it will conduct intensive safety inspections from May 22 to June 21 targeting areas and facilities at high risk of forest disasters or safety accidents.
The safety inspections are part of the nationwide government initiative called the "Korea Safety Transformation Intensive Safety Inspection," which aims to proactively eliminate risk factors by pre-inspecting disaster- and safety accident-prone facilities and to raise public safety awareness.
This year, the inspection targets in the forestry sector include 1,654 vulnerable areas nationwide where human casualties are feared due to summer landslides and other disasters, 16 forest roads and large-scale forest land conversion sites, and 124 multi-use forest facilities such as recreational forests and arboretums, totaling 1,794 sites across the country.
The Korea Forest Service will jointly inspect on-site risk factors and resident evacuation systems with private experts, and immediately address minor hazards on site.
In cases requiring detailed safety diagnoses and repairs or reinforcements, emergency measures will be taken proactively, followed by securing budgets to eliminate risk factors.
