Kumho Tire Wins Main Prize at Germany Red Dot Design Award
Kumho Tire announced on the 18th that its ‘WinterCRAFT WP52 EV’ product won the main prize (winner) in the product category at the German ‘Red Dot Design Award 2024’.
The Red Dot Design Award is a ceremony held by the Design Center of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, which has been evaluating designs in three categories?product, brand & communication, and concept?since 1955. It is currently one of the largest and most prestigious design competitions in the world. Along with Germany’s iF (International Forum Design) and the USA’s IDEA (International Design Excellence Award), it is considered one of the world’s top three design awards.
The awarded product, WinterCRAFT WP52 EV, is an electric vehicle (EV)-dedicated tire that is a facelift of the existing winter tire WinterCRAFT WP52, designed to enhance the driving performance of electric vehicles in winter. It improves key EV performance factors such as noise and wear resistance, and applies Kumho Tire’s exclusive EV Technology to simultaneously satisfy grip and braking performance on snowy roads during winter. In particular, to maximize grip and braking on snow for heavy-load electric vehicles, a 3D block design technology was applied to improve ride comfort and driving stability.
Additionally, Kumho Tire’s new tire noise reduction technology, K-Silent (sound absorption technology), which attaches polyurethane foam inside the tire, was applied to minimize tire resonance and noise generated from contact with the road surface. The sidewall features a design inspired by snowy landscapes and snowflake crystals, expressing a special sensibility unique to the WinterCRAFT product to convey the feeling of a winter tire to consumers.
