The past, present, and future vision of Gwangju Cultural Credit Union have been recognized globally.
Gwangju Cultural Credit Union announced on the 16th that it won the bronze award in the publishing category at the 2024 Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards.
The Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards is the only business awards program recognizing and celebrating workplace innovation across 29 markets in the Asia-Pacific region.
For 22 years, the Stevie® Awards have been widely known as world-class business awards recognizing achievements through programs such as the International Business Awards®.
Gold, silver, and bronze Stevie Award winners were selected through judging conducted by over 100 executives worldwide during February and March.
The winners will be celebrated at a gala event held on Friday, May 24, in Manila, Philippines.
Gwangju Cultural Credit Union won the bronze award for “30 Years of Gwangju Cultural Credit Union: Illuminating Hope in the Community with Honesty and Trust.” The publication is composed as a story containing the founding spirit to provide a comprehensive view of the history of changes at Gwangju Cultural Credit Union.
It received excellent evaluations for presenting the past, present, and future vision of Gwangju Cultural Credit Union, thereby enhancing the pride of credit union members.
Chairman Ko Young-cheol said, “The international recognition of the 30-year history book, which contains the sweat, effort, sacrifice, and dedication of Gwangju Cultural Credit Union, is thanks to the trust and support of over 90,000 members,” adding, “I express my gratitude to the executives and staff who have created this proud history together.”
He also added, “We will continue to actively communicate with our members and grow together with the local community with the belief that ‘we will change the world through the work of the credit union.’”
Meanwhile, Gwangju Cultural Credit Union, which celebrated its 30th anniversary last year, was established on November 27, 1993, with the purpose of providing financial benefits to marginalized local residents in Buk-gu, Gwangju, centered around Munhwa-dong, contributing to creating a community of coexistence.
Since opening its first branch, Yangsan Branch, it has expanded to operate a total of eight branches including Unam Branch, Yangsan Branch, Unamsan Branch, Dongnim Branch, Maegok Branch, Cheomdan Branch, and Gakhwa Branch.
It achieved assets of 1 trillion won in October 2020, reached 1.3 trillion won in April 2022, and surpassed 1.5 trillion won last year.
It is also leading efforts to nurture local talent. In 2012, it established the Welfare Scholarship Foundation to support scholarships for youths in need of social and economic assistance so they can grow into outstanding talents needed by society.

The Welfare Scholarship Foundation receives one recommendation per high school for second-year students in Buk-gu and Gwangsan-gu who have excellent academic performance despite difficult family circumstances, providing scholarship benefits until university graduation. Rather than a one-time scholarship, it supports tuition and living expenses from high school selection through university graduation to help selected scholarship students focus on their studies.
