Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) has officially launched the construction of the Macheon 1-dong Complex Community Center, a long-awaited project by residents, in line with the development of a premium residential complex in the Geoyeomacheon area.
Following a design competition in February, basic and detailed design services have been underway since March.
The existing Macheon 1-dong Community Center is an aging facility built 32 years ago, with a total floor area of 940㎡ spanning from one basement level to three above-ground floors. It has insufficient space for administrative needs and outdated facilities, causing significant inconvenience to residents.
Additionally, as redevelopment progresses in the previously underdeveloped residential areas of Geoyeomacheon in Songpa-gu, residents have continuously requested the expansion of public facilities.
In response, the district purchased land in the central area of Macheon 1-dong, specifically around Macheon-dong 603, considering residents’ accessibility, and is actively promoting the development of the ‘Macheon 1-dong Complex Community Center’ that encompasses all desired services including education, childcare, culture, and administration.
In particular, the district actively reflected residents’ opinions gathered through surveys, which emphasized the expansion of sports, cultural, and child facilities in the Macheon-dong area, improvement of aging facilities, spaces for children and parents to spend time together, and expanded community communication spaces.
The Macheon 1-dong Complex Community Center will be reborn as a multi-purpose community facility with a total floor area of 3,394㎡, spanning from one basement level to five above-ground floors.
The first floor will house the community center, and from the second floor upwards, public infrastructure needed by residents will be expanded. The second floor will feature the Songpa Kiwoom Center, the third floor will include a shared kitchen and fitness center, the fourth floor will have a Seoul-style kids caf? and Saemaeul Library, and the fifth floor will consist of education rooms and spaces for exchange and communication.
After completing the basic and detailed designs, construction is scheduled to begin in January next year, with the goal of opening in the second half of 2026.
Furthermore, as large-scale development projects equivalent to new town creation are being implemented in the Geoyeomacheon area by district, Songpa-gu plans to actively support administrative measures to transform the area into a city with convenient transportation, cultural and welfare facilities, and overall pleasant residential conditions.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “The redevelopment in the Geoyeomacheon area has progressed relatively slowly compared to other regions, causing inconvenience to residents. We will strive to ensure the complex community center is built as soon as possible.” He added, “Through this, we aim not only to improve administrative services for residents but also to develop this area into a premium residential space that is more livable.”
