View original imageTo celebrate the 100th anniversary of the university's founding this year, the National Pukyong National University Museum is holding a special exhibition until August to commemorate the tradition and new leap by discovering and exhibiting university historical records. The exhibition is open to all, including university members and local residents.
This exhibition features over 150 historical university records, including materials related to the predecessors of Pukyong National University, Busan Fisheries University and Busan Technical University, as well as records after their integration. The focus is on newly acquired records in addition to the approximately 550 historical records already held by the museum.
Displayed are property-related documents created when Busan Technical University, which opened in 1924, relocated its campus from Bosudong to the Daeyeon-dong site in the 1940s, the original academic regulations of Busan Fisheries University established in 1941, university plaques, school newspapers, and unique photographs.
New photographs of the Busan Fisheries University campus (currently Daeyeon Campus) taken by the U.S. Air Force in 1960 were also unveiled. The images clearly show the coastline before the reclamation of Yongho Bay and the campus surrounded by fields and paddies.
During the Korean War in the 1950s, the campuses of Busan Fisheries University and Busan Technical University were used as U.S. military headquarters. Since the Daeyeon Campus was near a U.S. Air Force airfield, aerial photographs for military intelligence purposes were frequently taken, which is why aerial photos have been preserved until now.
