A windsurfer heading to the sea to enjoy windsurfing over the weekend was rescued by the coast guard after drifting due to the wind stopping.
According to the Changwon Maritime Police Station in Gyeongnam on the 15th, around 11 a.m. on the 14th, two men windsurfing near Jisimdo Island off Ilun-myeon, Geoje-si, Gyeongnam, were unable to move in the middle of the sea because there was no wind.
Windsurfing is a marine sport where a sail is mounted on a board shaped like a plank and riders catch the wind to ride the waves; it cannot be done if there is no wind or if the wind is too strong.
The two people drifting without wind waved their hands around 3 p.m. that day to request rescue from a coastal rescue boat patrolling from Jangseungpo Police Substation.
Upon receiving the report, the Changwon Coast Guard dispatched a patrol ship and transferred the two rescued individuals from the coastal rescue boat to nearby Jisepo Port.
