A total of 101 rulings interpreting contemporary Korean society through legal provisions from 70 years ago are introduced.
Since the books contain many current case rulings, they are easy and enjoyable for anyone to read. The case commentaries are broken into short sentences and refined like poetry, highlighting a unique perspective that emphasizes ‘law’ and ‘literature,’ ‘language,’ and further ‘legal humanities,’ receiving praise from academia.
Professor Ha said, “Just as believers read the Bible, Buddhist scriptures, and Tao Te Ching aloud, I wanted to read Supreme Court rulings aloud. I hoped to deepen sentence study while reading and wished to improve legal education methods. I hope this helps with love for the Korean language, sentence study, social understanding, crime understanding, legal understanding, legal principle understanding, and understanding of criminal trials.”
He added, “It is even more meaningful that these books were created in my research office at Dong-A University Bumin Campus, located on the former site of the Busan District Court where the Criminal Law (1953) and Criminal Procedure Law (1954) were born. I have refined the rulings interpreted through those provisions at the birthplace of criminal law. I will continue to refine legal sentences and rulings so that the law can come closer to citizens.”
Professor Ha has been dedicated to popularizing law through a unique format, consistently publishing a series on legal sentence theory with the theme ‘Law Should Be Easy to Read,’ including laws such as the Medical Law, Bioethics Law, and the Corruption Investigation Office Law. His research works include Strengthening Criminal Law Provisions and Criminal Philosophy and Criminal Policy (2008 Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Excellent Academic Book), and he received the 2014 Academic Award from the Korean Society of Comparative Criminal Law.
