Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Improves Traffic Facilities on 'Uri Dongne Gil'... Citizen Reports Accepted for Two Months
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 14th that it will accept reports and opinions from citizens regarding inconvenient or unreasonable traffic facilities to improve 'Our Neighborhood Streets' traffic facilities. The reporting period is from the 15th of this month to June 14th, lasting two months.
Since the inaugural year of the autonomous police system in 2021, the improvement of traffic facilities on Our Neighborhood Streets has been one of the representative policies of the Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Commission. Any citizen can report on traffic facilities and signal systems on neighborhood side streets or arterial roads. Over the past three years until last year, a total of 3,378 reports were received, resulting in 2,304 improvements (68%).
For easy reporting, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and the Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police Commission have opened 'Our Neighborhood Streets Smart Report' portals on their respective websites and plan to operate them by attaching QR codes to promotional banners and posters. Reports can also be made by phone or in writing.
Once a report is received, a 'Our Neighborhood Streets Traffic Facility Improvement Council' consisting of police stations, district offices, and local residents will be formed and operated to gather broad opinions and plan improvements such as installing crosswalks and traffic lights, permitting left turns and U-turns, improving signal operations, and installing protective fences.
Urgent matters or those not requiring budget allocation will be improved immediately starting in May after receipt, while issues with significant traffic impact or requiring separate design will undergo consultations with related agencies and traffic safety reviews, aiming for completion by the end of October.
