On the 11th, after the election ended, Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) swiftly removed election banners and washed away the grime accumulated over winter by conducting a large-scale cleanup with residents to welcome spring.
About 100 residents from Ogeum-dong, along with Mayor Seo Gang-seok of Songpa-gu, participated in the cleanup. From 9 a.m. for one hour, they thoroughly cleaned a 1.3 km stretch from Seongnaecheon Mulbit Square, passing Ogeum Park intersection, to Bangi Station.
Mayor Seo said, “This is the first cleaning activity of the year with residents,” adding, “It will serve as an opportunity to revitalize the local community together with residents who endured various inconveniences such as reduced communication opportunities and the posting of banners during the election period.”
The district mobilized a total of cleaning vehicles including six water cleaning trucks, eight dust suction trucks, seven street surface cleaning trucks, and five small street cleaning vehicles to remove dust from roads and alleys and to wash facilities such as bus stops, subway entrances, and various signboards.
In particular, they promptly removed all election campaign banners that had surged due to the 22nd National Assembly election, making it the fastest cleanup nationwide.
According to Article 276 of the Public Official Election Act, the posting entity must remove election campaign banners without delay after the election day. However, voluntary removal is rare, often causing inconvenience to residents due to banners left on the streets.
Accordingly, on the 11th, the day after the election, the district completed the cleanup of about 200 election campaign banners with the cooperation of the illegal advertising mobile team and each dong community center.
The district plans to recycle the collected banners into reusable items such as single-person mats, shopping bags, aprons, bags, agricultural tarps, and fan covers, which will be provided free of charge to residents. Applications can be made by phone or visit to the Songpa-gu Office Urban Planning Division.
Additionally, the district has designated the fourth Wednesday of every month as ‘Clean Day’ to encourage residents to voluntarily participate in cleaning, and plans to continue water cleaning of major roads and street facilities in the area.
Mayor Seo Gang-seok of Songpa-gu expressed gratitude to the residents who took precious time to join the spring cleanup, saying, “We will continue to maintain a pleasant urban environment to improve residents’ quality of life and ensure safety, making Songpa-gu a better place to live.”
