Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju to Operate Eco-Friendly Hydrogen Cleaning Vehicles Starting October
Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 11th that it will deploy eco-friendly hydrogen cleaning vehicles for household waste collection starting in October.
Earlier this year, Gwangsan-gu was selected for the 2024 Eco-friendly Hydrogen Cleaning Vehicle Pilot Project led by the Ministry of Environment, securing the full project budget of 2.7 billion KRW from national and city funds, and is promoting the introduction of three hydrogen cleaning vehicles.
The eco-friendly hydrogen electric cleaning vehicles have twice the cargo space compared to existing vehicles, and produce almost no noise or vibration during operation, which is expected to improve household waste collection efficiency, alleviate noise inconvenience for citizens, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector.
Among the three hydrogen cleaning vehicles, Gwangsan-gu plans to use two for dedicated collection of volume-based waste bags in apartment complexes with secured fire roads, and one for integrated transportation of volume-based waste bags that cannot be brought into waste treatment facilities.
