Cooperation in Promoting the Marine Healing Industry and Operating Temple Stay Linked Programs
Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) signed a business agreement on the 8th with Daeheungsa Temple (Chief Monk Beopsang), the head temple of the 22nd district of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, to revitalize the marine healing industry.
According to the county on the 11th, the business agreement was prepared for mutual development, recognizing the close connection between marine healing and the temple stay programs conducted at Daeheungsa, which heal the body and mind of people tired from daily life.
The business agreement ceremony was held at Wando County Office, attended by Governor Shin Woo-cheol, Chief Monk Beopsang of Daeheungsa, and other related officials.

View original imageThe main contents of the business agreement include △ promotion of the marine healing industry △ establishment of a cooperation system for discovering and operating marine healing programs linked with temple stay △ utilization of various venues such as events and meetings connected with marine healing facilities △ continuous exchange and cooperation for the development of the marine healing industry and Buddhism △ and other matters recognized as necessary through mutual consultation between institutions.
Governor Shin Woo-cheol said, “I consider it meaningful to have signed an agreement with Daeheungsa while making efforts in various ways to revitalize the marine healing industry,” adding, “We will actively strive to discover and support programs linked to marine healing to help people lead happy lives.”
Chief Monk Beopsang of Daeheungsa said, “Since we have joined hands for the development of Wando’s marine healing industry and Buddhism, I hope that continuous exchange and cooperation will create a synergy effect for both institutions.”
The Wando Marine Healing Center is the only marine healing facility in Korea, equipped with 16 therapy facilities utilizing marine resources. Since its opening on November 24 last year, it has become a healing hot spot visited by over 19,000 people.
Currently, families of three or more visiting the center receive a 30% discount on the total program fee. During April, when the Cheongsando Slow Walking Festival is held, tourists who visit Cheongsando and present their ferry boarding pass can use the first-floor programs at a 30% discounted price on weekdays as part of an ongoing event.
