Hanhwa Investment & Securities Asset Management Releases Interview Video with Chris Miller, Author of 'Chip War'
Korea Investment Trust Management announced on the 11th that it will release an interview video with Professor Chris Miller of Tufts University on its YouTube channel.
Previously, on the 4th, Korea Investment Trust Management released a teaser video of the interview with Professor Chris Miller. The full interview video is scheduled to be uploaded at 5 p.m. on the same day.
Chris Miller is a professor teaching international history and the author of the globally bestselling book "Chip War." Chip War covers the 70-year history of the semiconductor industry, from its beginnings to the current semiconductor hegemony battle between the United States and China, as well as future strategies.
In the interview with Korea Investment Trust Management, Professor Chris Miller explained, "There is no single leader in the current global semiconductor industry," adding, "While the U.S. leads semiconductor design (non-memory), Korea leads in memory, Taiwan in foundry, and Japan in materials."
He continued, "The semiconductor industry still relies on an international supply chain," and added, "No country, including the U.S., can manage it alone."
As an example, he mentioned the chip production process of Nvidia. Currently, Nvidia's chips are produced in Taiwan using materials and equipment from Japan and the Netherlands, and the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) used in the chips is supplied or under consideration for supply by Korea's SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics.
Professor Chris Miller analyzed, "Semiconductors change human life and affect all humanity, but only a few countries monopolize them," explaining, "Semiconductor manufacturing is not only a highly sophisticated field but also requires enormous investment, which only a few countries can afford."
He added, "Companies like Nvidia and TSMC will continue to maintain their leading positions through relentless research and development and strategic investments," and said, "Considering their dominant market positions, it is safe to say that new companies are unlikely to challenge their monopolistic status."
In addition, Professor Chris Miller discussed the impact of the U.S. presidential election on the semiconductor industry and provided analysis on Japanese semiconductor companies in this interview. The full interview can be viewed on Korea Investment Trust Management’s YouTube channel.
Yeom Jeong-in, Deputy Head of ETF Marketing at Korea Investment Trust Management, who conducted the interview with Professor Chris Miller, said, "Through this interview, we were able to confirm that the ACE Global Semiconductor TOP4 Plus SOLACTIVE ETF best reflects the trends of the global semiconductor market," adding, "Going forward, Korea Investment Trust Management’s ACE ETF will do its best to discover and supply long-term growth themes that can last more than 10 years."
Korea Investment Trust Management launched the 2022 ACE Global Semiconductor TOP4 Plus SOLACTIVE Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF). This ETF focuses on leading companies in four sectors within the semiconductor industry (△Memory △Non-memory △Foundry △Semiconductor).
