On the 5th, 1,400 Companion Trees (Four-Season Roses) Distributed for the 79th Arbor Day Event
Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) has decorated various everyday living spaces with colorful spring flower gardens together with residents to welcome the spring season.
The district planted a total of about 47,000 spring flowers of over 20 species, including tulips familiar to residents, chrysanthemums, daisies, and violas. These varieties are resilient to the cold snaps and are expected to be in full bloom from April to May, exuding the essence of spring.
About 20,000 flowers were planted in local parks, street green belts, and flowerpots, and approximately 27,000 flowers were distributed to community centers and related organizations, allowing residents to feel the spirit of spring in every corner of the neighborhood.
In particular, the district plans to create everyday gardens that residents can experience during daily life, commutes, and outings. To this end, 1,700 perennial herbaceous plants of 18 species were planted in four resting areas and flower beds around Itaewon Quynon-gil, and 7,190 trees and herbaceous plants of 15 species were planted in eight small unused spaces in living areas.
On the 5th, to celebrate the 79th Arbor Day, a ‘Companion Tree Sharing Campaign’ was held at the Yongsan-gu Office lawn plaza. This event was organized to foster a culture of residents planting and caring for ‘companion plants’ at home.
The companion plants prepared that day were 1,400 four-season roses, the district’s symbolic flower, which are popular as ornamental plants and easy to grow indoors. Each person received one plant for free. The event was conducted through prior online reservations and was so popular that all the prepared plants were distributed within two hours.
District Mayor Park Hee-young said, “We planted spring flowers even in the gaps between buildings so that residents can feel that spring has come after enduring a tough winter,” adding, “As the fragrance of flowers fills the air, I hope the residents’ happiness will be abundant as well.”
