‘YDP Oreum Indoor Climbing Gym’ Opens... Sports Space Within Close Living Area
Features 3 Bouldering Walls and 1 Endurance Wall Offering Various Difficulty Levels
Promotes Healthy Living and Sound Leisure for Residents, Realizing Comprehensive ‘Sports Welfare’
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced the opening and official operation of the new indoor artificial rock climbing gym, ‘YDP Oreum Indoor Climbing Gym,’ located in the donation land of Singil-dong.
‘YDP Oreum Indoor Climbing Gym (Dosin-ro 60-gil 5, 2nd floor)’ was created as part of the ‘Our Neighborhood Gym’ project, which transforms idle spaces into community sports facilities. As a result, 75 million KRW in city funds were secured, and remodeling construction began in October 2022.
The purpose is to create conditions that allow residents to participate in sports activities for a healthy life and wholesome leisure. Through this, the district plans to realize ‘sports welfare,’ where all residents can enjoy sports and appreciate its value.
The indoor climbing gym, covering an area of 78 pyeong (approximately 258 square meters), captivates users with its high ceiling and colorful climbing holds embedded in the walls. The climbing courses are divided into three bouldering walls and one endurance wall. Various difficulty levels are available according to the user’s skill, making it easy for beginners to challenge themselves. On the bouldering walls, although the routes are short, users can develop agility and strength through diverse courses, while the endurance wall, equipped with over 300 holds, helps improve cardiopulmonary endurance.
Previously, the district conducted a resident opinion collection process from the planning stage to provide sports facilities that meet the needs of residents. As a result, the indoor climbing gym was established, as it was the most demanded among community sports and there were no similar facilities nearby.
Additionally, to minimize the financial burden on the district and provide high-quality operational services, the management will be entrusted to a specialized private operator through a public-private partnership.
