Democratic Party Wins 8 Seats in Chungnam... People Power Party Limited to 3 Seats
Six Incumbents Elected...Two Political Rookies Enter National Assembly for the First Time
In the 22nd National Assembly election held on the 10th, Chungnam saw a landslide victory for the Democratic Party of Korea. The Democratic Party gained 2 more seats than in the 21st general election, bolstering the "judgment against the Yoon Seok-yeol administration."
According to the Central Election Commission on the 11th, the results of the 22nd general election counting showed that in Chungnam's 11 constituencies, the Democratic Party won 8 seats, and the People Power Party won 3 seats. In the 21st general election, the Democratic Party held 6 seats, while the United Future Party (now People Power Party) held 5 seats.
Among the incumbent lawmakers, 6 met again in the National Assembly, and 2 political newcomers won their first badges.
The elected representatives are Moon Jin-seok of Cheonan-si Gap, Lee Jae-gwan of Cheonan-si Eul, Lee Jeong-moon of Cheonan-si Byeong, Park Soo-hyun of Gongju-si, Buyeo-gun, and Cheongyang-gun, Jang Dong-hyuk of Boryeong-si and Seocheon-gun, Bok Ki-wang of Asan-si Gap, Kang Hoon-sik of Asan-si Eul, Sung Il-jong of Seosan-si and Taean-gun, Hwang Myeong-seon of Nonsan-si, Gyeryong-si, and Geumsan-gun, Eo Gi-gu of Dangjin-si, and Kang Seung-gyu of Hongseong-gun and Yesan-gun.
In Cheonan and Asan, the Democratic Party swept all 5 seats. Among these 5 seats, the only one previously held by the People Power Party, Asan-si Gap constituency, was also defeated as candidate Bok Ki-wang was elected.
Moon Jin-seok of Cheonan-si Gap and Lee Jeong-moon of Cheonan-si Byeong, who first entered the National Assembly in the 21st general election, both succeeded in their re-election. Lee Jae-gwan of Cheonan-si Eul defeated People Power Party candidate Lee Jeong-man to win his first badge.
Democratic Party candidate Bok Ki-wang, who lost by 564 votes in the 21st general election, succeeded in re-entering the National Assembly this time. Bok was first elected as a lawmaker in the 17th general election as a member of the Uri Party but lost his position due to a violation of the Public Official Election Act, and now, after 20 years, he has won his badge again. In the Asan-si Eul constituency, Kang Hoon-sik comfortably won his third term with a margin of over 20,000 votes against People Power Party candidate Jeon Man-gwon.
In Dangjin, Democratic Party candidate Eo Gi-gu succeeded in his first third term and expressed his ambition to "develop Dangjin into the No. 1 city on the West Coast and a self-sufficient city of 300,000."
In Gongju, Buyeo, and Cheongyang, Democratic Party candidate Park Soo-hyun defeated Jeong Jin-seok, who was challenging for his sixth term, achieving revenge in their third contest. In Nonsan, Gyeryong, and Geumsan, Democratic Party candidate Hwang Myeong-seon, a three-term former mayor of Nonsan, defeated People Power Party candidate Park Seong-gyu and succeeded in entering the National Assembly for the first time.
In Hongseong and Yesan, considered the biggest battlegrounds in Chungnam, People Power Party candidate Kang Seung-gyu was elected. Although Democratic Party candidate Yang Seung-jo, a four-term lawmaker and former 7th-term governor of Chungnam, ran and polls showed a close race, there was no upset in this conservative stronghold of Chungnam.

In Seosan and Taean, People Power Party candidate Sung Il-jong succeeded in his third term, and in Boryeong and Seocheon, People Power Party candidate Jang Dong-hyuk succeeded in his re-election.
