'Schopenhauer to Read at Forty'... 127 Special Events Filled at 20 Libraries in Gangnam-gu

18 Librarians Honored for Library Management Efforts, Unique Events Planned at Each Library Including Author Meetings and Children's Historical Exams
Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) prepared a variety of events for local residents and awarded commendations to those who contributed to library operations in celebration of the 2nd Library Day (April 12) and the 60th Library Week (April 12?18).
Library Day is a legally designated commemorative day established to raise awareness of the value and necessity of libraries and to promote library use. As a special event this year, the district selected 18 outstanding individuals who work diligently on-site to support convenient library use by residents and awarded them commendations from the district mayor.
During Library Week from April 12 to 18, special events will be held throughout the district public libraries to help residents enjoy the libraries more enjoyably. As a common event involving all 20 district public libraries, residents can borrow up to 10 books, which is double the usual loan limit, and the suspension of borrowing privileges will be lifted upon returning overdue books.
Additionally, on April 18, a humanities concert featuring author Kang Yong-su, who wrote "Schopenhauer at Forty," will be held in the district office lobby.
Furthermore, each of the 20 libraries will conduct a total of 127 special programs. ▲ On the 11th, the Open Library hosted a meeting with architect Kang Ye-rin, known as a library walker, under the theme "The House of Books, Talking about Libraries." ▲ On the 12th, Dogok Information and Culture Library invited museum storyteller author Lee Eun-hwa to discuss "Visiting Nordic Art Museums and Libraries" with readers. ▲ On the 13th, Motgol Hanok Children's Library planned a traditional event recreating reading contests for elementary students in the form of ancient civil service examinations. ▲ On the 17th, Gaepo Haneulkkum Library will hold "Kwon Nam-hee × Librarian BOOK TALK," a dialogue between translator Kwon Nam-hee, who has 30 years of experience, and a library librarian.
Meanwhile, author meetings commemorating World Book Day on April 23 will continue. ▲ On the 24th, Nonhyeon Munhwa Maru Library will host a book talk titled "Cultural Interview: Yoon Go-eun × Kim Chan-yong." ▲ On the 23rd, Segok Maru Library will welcome author Haijin, who wrote "The Secret of the Fourth Egg." ▲ On the 24th, Segok Library will feature author Oh Hyun-seon with "The Magic of Reading: Mom-led Reading Education." ▲ On the 26th, Yeoksam Library will prepare a meeting with author Lee Ha-jin titled "Listening through SF Writers."

Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, "April, which includes Library Day and World Book Day, is a great opportunity to enjoy libraries in a special way," adding, "We will continue to provide high-quality books and excellent library services so that residents can regard libraries as their own home study."
