On the 4th, Doosan announced on the 7th that Park Ji-won, Vice Chairman of the Group, and executives related to digital business visited IBM headquarters in New York City, USA, to discuss collaboration plans in digital solutions and ESG fields with key IBM executives including Chairman Arvind Krishna and Senior Vice President Rob Thomas.
On that day, the executives from both companies reviewed the status of ongoing collaborative projects and future plans, and shared insights on various future technology trends. Since 2021, Doosan and IBM have cooperated in various areas such as ▲establishing an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system for Doosan Bobcat’s overseas business sites ▲applying operational technology (OT) security solutions within the group ▲formulating the group’s AI strategy. During this meeting, potential collaboration plans between the two companies in the ESG field were also discussed.
In particular, Vice Chairman Park and Doosan executives toured IBM’s Quantum Computing Research Lab to examine the current status of quantum technology, which has recently gained global attention. Quantum computing operates differently from conventional computing by utilizing quantum superposition, quantum interference, and quantum mechanics, enabling the processing of vast amounts of information at high speed. It is known to contribute to performance improvements in areas such as ▲encryption ▲security ▲AI ▲machine learning ▲simulation ▲optimization.
Preparing for the upcoming era of quantum computing, Doosan has been establishing a quantum computing adoption strategy since 2022. In February this year, the group conducted its first ‘Quantum Accelerator’ training program to nurture quantum computing talent within the group, and is currently engaged in discovering business cases and conducting research, selecting IBM as a partner for these efforts. Recently, among global companies, cases of researching the potential of quantum computing technology for new material development, product performance enhancement, and financial engineering are increasing.
Vice Chairman Park Ji-won said, "To achieve sustainable growth in a rapidly changing environment, it is necessary to proactively introduce various future technologies such as AI and big data on-site and streamline processes. Based on this collaboration with IBM, which possesses world-class technology in the digital field, we will accelerate the digital transformation of the group’s overall business."
