Kim Kyung-yul: "Yoon-Jeongongui Dialogue Positive... Will Be a Clue to Resolving Medical-Political Conflict"
"The doctor's voice coming out is desirable"
Regarding President Yoon Suk-yeol's meeting with Park Dan, the Emergency Response Committee Chair of the Korean Intern Resident Association (Daejeonhyeop), Kim Kyung-yul, Vice Chairman of the People Power Party's Election Countermeasures Committee, said, "(This conversation) could be a clue to resolving the medical policy conflict." When concerns arose that the failure of both sides to narrow their differences despite the meeting could act as a negative factor for the April 10 general election, he dismissed such worries.
Vice Chairman Kim appeared on SBS Radio's 'Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show' on the 5th and said, "First, there was a statement from the Presidential Office, and at that time, people within our party were exchanging messages in a chat room saying 'a favorable wind is blowing.' But when Park Dan, the Emergency Response Committee Chair, wrote a post like that, many people became worried again. However, I don't think it can be seen only that way. The fact that such voices are coming out now is desirable and definitely not entirely bad."
The day before, President Yoon announced that when discussing future medical reform, including increasing the number of doctors, the position of interns and residents would be respected. However, right after the meeting with President Yoon, Park Dan posted on her Facebook that "there is no future for Korean medical care," raising concerns that the medical policy conflict might worsen.
Vice Chairman Kim said, "What if Park Dan had taken a different stance?" but added, "I understand that there are currently many voices in the medical community, and these voices are not unified." He continued, "From Park Dan's position, who has to carry those voices behind her, there is understandably some embarrassment. The result of the first meeting cannot resolve in one word the many discordant incidents that have occurred so far."
