Changwon Special City, 'Daehan Doknip Manse' Resounds in the Sky over Samjin
Reenactment of the 4·3 Samjin Incident: "The Shout of That Day, Their Cry"
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced that the 'April 3rd Independence March Samjin United Uprising Commemoration Ceremony' was held on the 3rd at the Samjin Gymnasium located in Jinbuk-myeon, Masanhappo-gu.
The ceremony, hosted by the Changwon Samjin Independence Uprising Memorial Project Association, was attended by 200 people including Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, National Assembly member Choi Hyung-doo, Kim Yi-geun, Chairman of Changwon Special City Council, Jo Kyung-chul, Director of the Gyeongnam Eastern Veterans Office, provincial and city council members, heads of veterans organizations, and students from Samjin Middle School. The event proceeded in the order of the national anthem, commemorative speeches, encouragement speeches, reading of the Declaration of Independence and a dedicatory poem, and three cheers of "Manse."

View original imageThe originally planned street march and visit to the Paluisa Revolutionary Monument were canceled due to rain, but the cries of "Daehan Independence Manse" that echoed again in the Samjin sky and their shouts deeply moved those in attendance.
Chairman Kim Byung-hyun said, "Our ancestors did not yield to Japanese oppression and loudly shouted 'Daehan Independence Manse,' expressing their wish for the liberation of the homeland," adding, "Let local residents and youth proudly carry on the noble spirit of sacrifice of our forebears faithfully."

View original imageIn his commemorative speech, Mayor Hong said, "The April 3rd Samjin Independence March was a protest initiated by the union of residents from Jindong, Jinbuk, and Jinjeon on April 3rd, 1919. It is a proud history of Changwon and a monumental uprising," and added, "I will do my best to ensure that the spirit of patriotism and contributions of our ancestors are not forgotten in history, and that honoring veterans becomes a core value leading the future."
The April 3rd Samjin Uprising was an independence movement on April 3rd, 1919, where over 5,000 residents from Jindong-myeon, Jinbuk-myeon, and Jinjeon-myeon united and clashed fiercely with the Japanese military police while waving the Taegeukgi flag in Jindong-myeon. It is regarded as one of the four major uprisings alongside the Suwon Jeam-ri Uprising, Seoncheon-eup Uprising, and Suan Uprising.
