Election Posters Scratched and Damaged with Stones in Daejeon... Suspect Detained and Investigated by Police
A group of individuals who scratched candidates' faces on election posters with stones, damaging the posters, have been caught and are under investigation by the police.
The Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 2nd that they have booked and are investigating Mr. A in his 50s and Mr. B in his 70s on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act.
According to the police, they are suspected of tearing down the election posters for the 22nd National Assembly election posted in Galma-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon, on the 29th of last month by grabbing and pulling them by hand.
Mr. B was caught by the police on the 1st after damaging the election poster of the Democratic Party candidate for Seo-gu Gap constituency posted in Goejeong-dong, Seo-gu, by scratching it with a stone and fleeing.
The police stated that they are investigating the detailed circumstances of the crime with these individuals. A representative from the Daejeon Election Commission said, "Damaging election promotional materials interferes with candidates' election campaigns and voters' right to choose candidates," and added, "We will take strict measures against violations."
