Jeongeup-si to Host Donghak Peasant Revolution Memorial Gugak Festival Performance on the 20th
Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 1st that it will hold the ‘KBS Gugak Hanmadang’ performance at 4 p.m. on the 20th at the Jeongeupsa Arts Center to commemorate the 130th anniversary of the Donghak Peasant Revolution.

KBS Gugak Hanmadang has been regarded as the best stage for gugak artists since its first broadcast in 1990. It is the longest-running gugak (traditional Korean music) program in the country, inheriting the tradition of gugak while reflecting the flow of the times.
On this day, top gugak artists of South Korea including Park Aeri, Nam Sangil, Dubeonjjaedal, Oh Danhae, Choi Yerim, and Kwon Bitna, along with the highly skilled Jeongeup City Gugak Orchestra, will take the stage to offer a variety of attractions.
The performance is open to those aged 8 and above, and all tickets are free. Reservations can be made through Ticketlink from the 11th to the 17th.
Reserved tickets can be collected on the day of the performance starting one hour before the show.
Mayor Lee Haksoo said, “Through ‘Gugak Hanmadang,’ a representative program of traditional culture, we will promote Jeongeup, the birthplace and sacred site of the Donghak Peasant Revolution, both domestically and internationally, and create a special time to remember and commemorate the 130th anniversary of the Donghak Peasant Revolution with our citizens.” He added, “We will continue to strengthen the status of Jeongeup as a revolutionary city through various commemorative projects.”
Meanwhile, this performance will be recorded publicly on the 20th and will be broadcast on KBS 1TV at 12:10 p.m. on the 11th of next month, the anniversary of the Donghak Peasant Revolution.
