The Yuseong Market Manse Movement began on March 16, 1919, when brothers Lee Sang-su and Lee Gwon-su from Jijok-ri raised a large Taegeukgi flag in the middle of the village and went to Yuseong Market, starting the movement with a crowd of about 300 people. On March 31 and April 1, they attacked the Yuseong military police station wielding sickles and hoes. One person died from gunfire by Japanese military police, and many were arrested, marking the starting point of the manse movement in the Daejeon area.
